What you'll accomplish
An invoice lands from a publisher and you have to confirm it matches the insertion order you signed. Doing it by eye means holding two PDFs side by side and hoping the eyes do not skip a line. After this setup, you upload both documents to a regular Claude chat and get a table of every line that differs, with both values, plus any line that is in only one document. Claude finds the differences. You and finance decide what they mean.
What you'll need
What you should see: Both file names shown with the message box. Troubleshooting: If an upload fails, check the size limit in Anthropic's help center, or save the file as plain text or PDF and retry.
Example prompt to copy-paste:
I have attached an insertion order (IO) and the invoice that should match it.
Compare them line by line.
Produce a table with these columns: line description, field that differs (description, quantity, date or amount), IO value, invoice value, difference.
Then list separately:
- lines that appear only in the IO
- lines that appear only in the invoice
- the IO total and the invoice total exactly as printed on each document, and the difference between them
Rules:
Do not decide which document is correct.
Do not suggest that either document is wrong or that anyone should pay or dispute anything.
Do not round figures. Copy numbers exactly as printed.
If you cannot read a value, write "unreadable" instead of guessing.
Show the page or line number where each value appears so I can find it.
What you should see: A table of differences, two short lists, and a totals comparison.
Open both originals. For each row in Claude's table, find the line on each document and confirm the values. Also scan for differences Claude did not flag, since a miss is possible. Put the verified differences in your own tracker.
You do not decide which document is right, and neither does Claude. Send finance the verified list along with the originals. Finance or the media buyer takes it from there. Do not enter figures from Claude's table into any system before you have checked them against the originals.
